Friday 20th June 2008

Last night was the Pride of Shropshire Awards at Shrewsbury Town Football Club. I haven't been very well this week and I still had a little bit of a temperature. Mum and Dad weren't sure whether we would be able to go, but I really wanted to.

I went to the hospital in the afternoon and then I went to have my hair done.
When I got home we got ready.
Mum had a long orange dress. Dad had a new pink shirt and tie.

I had new white leggings and grey top from Happe Ville in town.

Jenny took some pictures in the front room and mum gave me lots of medicines to make sure I would be OK.

Nana came round to drive us there. When we went in, we were greeted by four people. We went in a first room and Mum and Dad were given champagne and orange.

Then we went upstairs for the meal. There were 12 people on our table.

I chose melon for starter. I didn't eat it all, because some of it hurt my mouth. Then I had chicken with gravy. It was even better than Mum's chicken, but the roasties weren't done enough for me. I had profiteroles, they were really, really nice.

After our meal, they did the award ceremony. The Courage Award was first and I won. I couldn't believe I had won.

When I went up for my award, I had my picture taken by the Shropshire Star. I was given a trophy, a certificate and £500.

When the awards had finished everyone wanted to speak to me. There were some very nice people there and everyone was very friendly. Sarah the editor of the Shropshire Star invited me to their offices to see how they make the papers.
I had my picture taken with the man from Lanyon Bowdler who gave me my award and the managing director of the Shropshire Star.

At 11 o'clock we went home.

Tuesday 17th June 2008

On Monday 9th June, me, Mum and Nana went to a Haven Holiday Park near Pwthelli in Wales. When we got there we had a look around the site.
Then we went for a walk to the beach (in my wheelchair). At the top of the beach there were lots of pebbles, but it was nice and sandy by the water. In the evening we went to the Showbar, where they had evening entertainment and arcades. I had a fish from the chippy.

On Tuesday, it was nice and sunny so we went to the beach. Me and Nana went swimming in the sea, it was very clear. Mum and Nana got sunburnt, but I just got a nice tan, because I used lots of suncream. At night I had another fish from the chippy, it was yummy.
On Wednesday morning we played crazy golf.
I thought it was very nice crazy golf course.
At the last hole, we cheated because we didn't putt the ball so we could go around again.

After that we went to Starbucks, mum and Nana had a Latte. Then we had a burger from Burger King. Mum was on the phone to Dad and Nana was eating her burger, when a seagull came down and took it out of her hands and ate it. It was really funny. Nana said "I hope it burns its' mouth on the sauce of my Spicy Chicken Royale". In the afternoon we went swimming, but we didn't stay in the pool long, because my legs were hurting.

On Wednesday night, we stayed in and played games. we used Timmy as a fourth person as there were only three of us. Timmy won and Mum said she couldn't believe she had been beaten by a stuffed dog!
On Thursday morning we went to Asda for some shopping. After that we went to Starbucks, mum and Nana had a latte and I had a hot chocolate with cream on top.
In the afternoon Nana's sister Linda came.

We went for a walk to the beach.

On the way back we went bowling.
In the evening we went to the club. The entertainment team split the room into two teams. One team was Sheila's Wheels and the other team were the Bananas. We were on Team Banana. We bought an inflatable banana and some glow sticks. We did lots of singing and had lots of fun. The next morning I woke up with a sore throat.
On Friday, we went swimming. The pool was really great, there were four slides, two wave machines and rapids.
All four of us went down the slides, it was great fun.

On Friday afternoon, we went back to the beach. Linda taught me how to skim pebbles into the sea. In the evening we played quoits and then Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.

Linda went home on Saturday and me, Mum and Nana went swimming again, but it was very busy as it was weekend, so we didn't stay in very long.

After dinner we went back to the beach for the last time.

On Saturday night we went to the club and watched a really funny show. There were three men who sang and did impressions.

On Sunday we went to the arcades for a bit, then we went home.

Sophie's mum says:
We have had a fantastic holiday in Wales. The site was relatively quiet as it was term time, although it did get busier at weekend. I would recommend the site to anyone looking for a family holiday with lots to do. Unfortunately Sophie started to get a sore mouth towards the end of the holiday and is now not feeling too well.

Sophie is making good progress and her treatment continues.

Sunday 25th May 2008

On Saturday, me, Nana and Gramps went on holiday to Wychnor near Burton on Trent. After we had unpacked, we went to the bar for tea. Nana and Gramps paid loads of money for theirs, but the meals were tiny. My meal was a kids meal and it was bigger than theirs.

On Sunday, Nana got us lost on the way to Morrison's. In the afternoon, Mum and Dad came. They had to come late because Jenny was going on her French exchange.

On Monday, me, Mum and Dad went to Alton Towers for the day. We went on lots of rides. Some of the best rides were the Flume, the Congo River Rapids and the Runaway Mine Train.

We saw a nice gentle boat ride, but when we got on we got absolutely soaked. It was fun. It was called Battle Galleons.

When we were on the Flume, it went into a dark tunnel. A big rubber duck came out of the dark and Mum shouted at Dad for laughing. She thought he was laughing, because she was being a big scaredy cat, but he was laughing at the duck.

Mum wanted to go on a ghost train, so she took us to the Haunted Hollow. It wasn't even a ride, it was boring. There were statues with big noticeable speakers at the sides. They played noises that were supposed to be spooky, but were just silly. It was rubbish.

When the Runaway Mine Train stopped, it wasn't parked in the right place, so we had to go around again twice.

At Alton Towers we were treated really well and the staff were very helpful. We were allowed to go to the front of the queue on all the rides. We had a really good day.

On Tuesday, we had a rest day. Me, Mum and Dad stayed in bed and watched the film "Alvin and the Chipmunks". Later on me and Dad played Crazy Golf.

On Wednesday, we went to Cariba Creek, which is the water park at Alton Towers. There was a lazy river and a wonky waterworks. On some of the slides you had sit in a rubber ring. Dad had to carry my ring, because it was too big for me. I liked the outdoor slides the best. We weren't allowed to take a camera in. I really want to go back to Cariba Creek, it was a brilliant day.

On Thursday, I was very tired, we did some shopping in Lichfield and visited the cathedral. In the afternoon, I watched a DVD "Are we done yet?". In the evening, Michael, the entertainer where we were staying, did a quiz and we won.

On Friday, we went to Drayton Manor Theme Park. The swinging ship was my favourite ride. We went round the zoo, I saw some talking parrots. The parrots said "hello". we went on a ride called Stormforce 10 and we got soaking wet. We had a really good day, but it wasn't as good as Alton Towers. I was very tired at the end of the day and didn't feel very well on the way back.

On Saturday we came home, we watched I'd Do Anything, Britain's got Talent and the Eurovision Song contest. We all had a good laugh. Only San Marino and Ireland gave us any points.

Today, I've played on my new Wii game most of the day. I'm still in my pyjamas and I'm waiting for Jenny to come home from France. Mum's making a chicken dinner for tea.

Sunday 4th May 2008

On Friday I had some exciting news. My godmother, Deana came round to see me. She asked me if I would be a bridesmaid when she gets married next August. I am really looking forward to it.

Friday was also exciting because I had a sleepover at Nana's. We made a den in her living room. We made brownies. We watched the Emperor's New Groove and played battleships, then we slept in the den. It was the best den ever.

On a Saturday night, I've been watching Dr. Who, I'd Do Anything and Britain's Got Talent. This week I voted for Sarah to be Nancy.

Today I went swimming with my friend Megan. We had Hot Chocolates afterwards. Then we went to my house and played on the Playstation2 and the Wii.

I am not sure whether I can go on holiday now in May, because Jenny has got glandular fever.

Sunday 27th April 2008

I have been a lot better and I have been going to school. Usually I am tired when I come home from school. I have homework to do, so I don't have much time to write the blog.

Last week I went to Birmingham for some chemo and didn't feel very well after, so I had a couple of days off school.

I am hoping to go on another holiday in May and I will get some pictures for my blog.

Sunday 6th April 2008

I have been very busy the last few weeks and haven't had time to write much. We have joined a club at Rowton near where we live and I have been there lots over the school holidays. I have been doing lots of swimming to try and strengthen my legs. I have also had a go at archery. It is good fun there and mum says it's not too far away from home and the hospital if we need to get back.

On Wednesday me, mum dad and Tom went to London on the train. It was very hard work with the wheelchair, but the people who worked at the station helped us. They put ramps up, so we could get on the train and took us in a lift to get to the platforms.

I was very tired when we got to the hotel so I had a rest. We stayed right next to the London Eye and I was very excited.

Dad went to get tickets for the Eye and because I had a wheelchair we didn't have to queue up.

Tom took lots of photos. One was of Big Ben.

Another was of Buckingham Palace.

Then Dad took some of me.

It was really good.

After we had been on the Eye, we went for a walk to Hamley's Toy Shop. I bought a dog and called him Hamley. Then we walked to the Disney shop and dad bought me a ball for when we go swimming. Tom had a look round the shops, but didn't buy anything.

On Thursday, we had a big breakfast at the hotel. You could eat as much as you like. I had bacon, sausage, beans and egg, some apple juice and some rice krispies.

Then we went to see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace.

We were right at the front.

After Buckingham Palace, we went to the British Museum. We saw lots of mummies. One of them was Cleopatra.

After that we went to Covent Garden. I had a really good time. We saw a really funny magician. Me and mum had the biggest jacket potato with tuna you have ever seen.

On the way back Tom did some shopping. He bought a scarf and some trainers. We all cheered because he had finally bought something.

On Friday, we got a taxi to the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. I had a really good time at the Natural History Museum.

We went to see the dinosaurs.

We also looked at the mammals. There was a massive blue whale. Tom bought a dinosaur t shirt for his brother Charlie.

We went back to the hotel and we saw some street entertainment, so we watched them for a bit. We ate in the hotel. My dessert was the best bit, it was a kids hot chocolate fondue with mini donuts and brownies.

On Saturday we came home.
